W.D.Chapman&Sons

W.D.Chapman was one of the most famous lure makers in USA history.Their metal lures from the late 1800s were fascinating in styles and the workmanship was never matched.W.D.Chapman had an Ontario connection.The company had a "manufactory" in Brockville,Ontario.The factory was located at the corner of Water and Market Square and was in production from 1880 until at least 1887.The location was run by William (Dudley) Chapman,his son and partner Byron,and also a third partner,J.H.Carnegie.During the mid-1880's the company of Wm.Chapman&Son boasted that they were the largest manufacturer of "trolling baits" in the USA.Chapman lures were sold to independent dealers located in Kingston,Gananoque and Brockville.These were normal merchants like hardware dealers,furniture makers etc.Chapman lures are very unique and very sought after by all collectors.
